Gunite Pool Installation in Green Hills, Belle Meade, Forest Hills and Oak Hill
Building a pool in an established Nashville neighborhood is a different job from building one in a new subdivision. The houses came first, the trees came first, and the yard has already been landscaped once or twice. Sunshine Pools & Patios builds custom gunite pools for homeowners in Green Hills, Belle Meade, Forest Hills and Oak Hill, and the work starts with what is already there rather than with a blank lot.
A gunite pool suits these neighborhoods because the shell is shaped on site. We set steel reinforcement in the exact footprint the yard allows, then spray the concrete and sand mixture over it. A pool that has to fit between a mature oak and a 1950s garage is a gunite pool, because no prefabricated shell is going to land in that space.
Getting Equipment Into an Established Yard
The first question on a Belle Meade or Forest Hills property is usually not design. It is access. Narrow side yards, brick walls, mature plantings, circular drives and established fencing all affect how a crew reaches the dig and how the spoil leaves the site.
We walk the access route before we talk about shapes. Sometimes that means a smaller machine and a longer dig. Sometimes it means staging material at the front and conveying it through. Sometimes it means taking down and rebuilding a section of fence or wall, which we plan for rather than discover. Knowing the route in advance is what keeps a pool build in an established neighborhood from turning into a landscaping repair project, and it is one of the reasons the surrounding patios and hardscaping belong in the same plan as the pool.
Pools That Suit the House They Sit Behind
Green Hills and Belle Meade homes carry real architectural character, and a pool that ignores it looks wrong no matter how well it is built. A formal brick home usually wants a rectangular pool with stone coping and restrained tile. A low midcentury house in Forest Hills can carry a cleaner line and a darker finish. Oak Hill lots are often large and wooded, which leaves room for a freeform shape and a longer approach from the house.
Gunite lets us match the pool to the house instead of the other way around. Finish, coping, tile, edge detail and depth are all choices rather than fixed features, and the gunite pools page covers the range. The gallery is the quickest way to see how different finishes read once they are in the ground.
Replacing or Rebuilding an Older Pool
Many of these properties already have a pool, and it was built decades ago. An older gunite shell in Green Hills may need resurfacing, new tile and coping, modern equipment and a redesigned deck rather than a full replacement. In other cases the pool is in the wrong place, too deep for how the family actually swims, or beyond repair.
We do both. Our pool renovation page covers resurfacing, tile and coping replacement, equipment upgrades and deck work. If the existing pool is not worth saving, we will say so, and we will tell you what a new gunite pool in the same footprint would involve. Adding a spa during a rebuild is common, because the plumbing and equipment pad are already open.
A Nashville Builder You Can Reach
Sunshine Pools & Patios has been family-owned and operated for more than 40 years, working out of Cottontown and building across Middle Tennessee. Jim Lamberth sold the company’s first pool in 1982 and is still involved in the business day to day.
For a project in an established neighborhood, that continuity is practical rather than sentimental. The same company that assesses your side yard access is the company that pours the deck and answers the phone two years later. You can read more about how we work as a Nashville swimming pool builder, and we serve the neighboring areas including Brentwood and Nolensville.
Frequently Asked Questions
My side yard is narrow. Can you still build a gunite pool?
Usually yes. We check the access route first and plan the equipment and material staging around it. Narrow access affects how the work is sequenced more than whether the pool can be built.
Will the build damage my mature trees and landscaping?
Mature plantings are part of why people buy in these neighborhoods, so protecting them is part of the plan. We identify what has to be protected, what can be moved, and what sits in the dig or the access route, and we go through that with you before work starts.
Can you work with my neighborhood’s review requirements?
Many established Nashville neighborhoods have architectural guidelines or an association that reviews outdoor changes, and Metro Nashville has its own permitting and barrier requirements. Tell us what applies to your property early and we will work to it.
Is it better to renovate my old pool or replace it?
It depends on the condition of the shell, the plumbing and the equipment, and on whether the pool is in the right place for how you use the yard. We look at all four before recommending one or the other.
